The Power of the Giants

This is the story behind the creation of the front of shirt #1

Its funny how a simple shirt idea that one expects to just come up with one afternoon suddenly becomes a little more like a never-ending project, nevertheless this is what happened with our first power of the giants shirt.

We were going to spend four days in the Carmanah Valley on Vancouver Island in British Columbia this past summer, but due to unforeseen circumstances it ended up being just one night and an early afternoon filled with plenty of rain. The rain wasn't an issue as that was expected as after all it is a rainforest, what I didn't expect was to have camera issues and so little time.

With a reduced amount of shots taken, what pictures we did bring back from this trip were amazing, so many new classics for our collection with different lighting and perspectives but unfortunately nothing that really caught my eye for what I thought would be our Power of the Giants front cover.

In the following days to come I was intrigued by one of my friends who often spoke to me of a giant old growth tree in the forest behind where he grew up. In North Vancouver on the mainland, where although there were very few left, most of these ancient trees were cut down many years ago.

This hike up to the Mother Cedar as he called it was about an hour each way and to me that was nothing if I could get a good picture out of it. The North Shore Mountains are beautiful year round and even though you tend to see all the old growth tree stumps along the way it's still a very lush and dense forest. This is a great hike for anyone who wishes to spend some quiet moments and healthy exercise in the forest.

When we finally reached the ancient cedar I was impressed and in awe that such a huge tree lived there, still standing, amongst all these smaller century old or so trees. It was beautiful. I didn't quite know what type of shots I took till I went through them all at home but as you can now see on front of shirt #1 which shot I chose in the end.

This cedar was only over 600 years old which in ancient trees this is quite young but it also went through some tough times throughout its life. Lightning strikes and wind can drastically harm big trees like these since they have no surrounding trees with the same height and size to take some of the hits. The best part of it is that it is still alive and has since grown new arms that from the ground seem to touch the sky.

In the end I was very pleased with the results of the shirt and it is a great honor to present it to all who wish to wear this shirt to help promote the protection of all our ancient trees of the world such as the Mother Cedar.

We no longer sell our T-SHIRTS!

We will give a shirt away! Once a month!

We will choose one individual who's actions or comments intrigues us the most.

The only way to achieve this is by taking our survey, and adding your story in the comments column.

It takes action to achieve goals, without taking a stand there is no success.
